Into the Wild

Chris' Unique Opportunity

July 12-19, 2013

The ideographs for our country literally mean Middle Kingdom.  This concept was the territory bounded on one side by an apparently limitless ocean and on the other sides by inhospitable terrain inhabited by people who were, in the majority’s eyes, of inferior cultural achievements.  Our culture for centuries saw their homeland as the center of the world.  And as they expanded out of their heartland, moving mostly south, they occupied similar plains until they ran into mountains formidable enough to contain their mass migration.  As a result, although the majority resides in every corner within the boundaries of our contemporary country, they still mostly occupy a middle position between the sea and the mountains.

In a sense our country is divided.  One is the Middle Kingdom, the central and eastern provinces, the population almost all majority, heirs to thousands of years of history and traditions, the whisperers of a rich and refined culture.  Its chief characteristics are recognizable from one end of the Middle Kingdom to another.

The other is the Boundary, the borderlands where civilizations blend, people of different origins mix and cultural influence is diminished, modified to varying degrees by the indigenous differences.  Among our recognized nationalities, the majority compromise 92% of the populations.  But the other 8% {112,000,000} reside upon 60% of the land.  For those seeking and pr’ing for the nations of lost in our country the Boundary is hurting.

“If only my hand could write what my eyes and heart have seen.”

To be invited to take part in the Boundary life of surrounding villagers, schools, businessman, family activities and many others is one of the toughest invitations to receive.  So when one is handed out, not physically, you accept.  This invitation was recently given to Chris and it encompassed all aspects of our culture.  Chris was called out unto the great unknown, the 8%, of our country to help lead 23 students, of various backgrounds and ethnic groups.

Ranging from ages 8 - 14 he led them for 7 days in the remotest mountains and villages he has ever seen.  It was in the creation surrounding these mountain top villages where he was seeing the King in the mysterious and unknown lands.  The door is opening and our King is moving and when He moves we are to move.  During the 7 days the King was the lamp unto Chris’ feet.  A splendid view not just built on the landscape, but in knowing our King on earth.  A pixel of reality becomes a portrait with faith.

“Father, make of me a crisis man.  Bring those I come into contact with to make a decision.  Let me not be a milepost on a single road; but instead make me a fork, that men must turn one way or another on facing the Son in me.”

On day two a villager walked up to Chris and expressed, in a minority dialect, his thanks for coming and that he was the first foreign face to ever show up.  It was then, 90 kilometers from any developed transit or town, deep in the mountains, that Chris stood speechless.  This scripture came to mind:

“Pr for us that the word of the Father will spread rapidly and be glorified.”

The following pictures are a glimpse at what the week look liked.  A video is in the works!
